Tie race.

The thing I couldn’t stop focusing on in the presidential debate was the fact that Kerry wore a red tie and Bush wore a blue tie.  You just know that their various handlers worked out in advance who would wear what so they didn’t appear on TV with the same tie.  And you just know it took forever to work out.

KERRY PEOPLE: We want the conservative blue tie to appear more presidential.

BUSH PEOPLE: Well, you’re not president, so you get the red tie.

KERRY PEOPLE: We don’t want the red tie.  That’ll make us look like brash, fiery upstarts.  Challengers.

BUSH PEOPLE: You are the damn challengers.  We’re the incumbent.  You get the red goddamn tie.

KERRY PEOPLE: Look, maybe Bush would look good in a green tie.

BUSH PEOPLE: NO.  You get the red tie and that’s the end of it.

(pause)

Listen, if you want, you can change into a blue tie halfway through the debate.

KERRY PEOPLE: Really?  COOL!  Okay---heeeeyyyyyy.  You’re trying to paint us as indecisive flip floppers.

BUSH PEOPLE: Heh.  Yeah.  But that would have been sweet if you went for it.

bush wears a clip on.

I noticed that during the 2000 election, too.  I bet they bring back-up ties.  I would vote for the guy that dared to wear the politically vague Fuchsia tie.

There’s nothing politically vague about a fuchsia tie.

I loved how every time Kerry would criticize the decisions Bush has made, Bush would have this, “Why, I oughtta kick your ass” look on his face. He can’t even hide it a little bit.

Actually, it was more of a “Why, I oughtta kick you in the shins, meany-head” face.

And I zeroed in on the red tie-blue tie thing too, but because they were each wearing the opposing team’s colors.  Like if the Yankees and Red Sox swapped uniforms for the first game of the playoffs, just to be sportsman-like.

And then beat each other up in the dugout.

OK but did anyone else notice that Laura and Theresa were both wearing pink suits?

It would have been great if Bush would have worn one of those ties with images of hundred dollar bills all over it.

And Kerry could have worn the POW-MIA black tie, just to be fair.

And when I say “to be fair,” I mean to the comedians who will ridicule them.

i was kind of hoping for abow tie on one of them, myself.

bush wears a clip-on, yes, but it’s not his necktie.

CF might be onto something with the backup ties.  If I were running for office, I’d be sure to show up with a tie that matched my opponent’s.  And if my opponent actually cared enough to complain about it, I’d tell him to go change.  There’s nothing better than a game of “Pre-Debate Necktie Chicken.”

What color ties do Libertarians wear?  I’ll assume that my lefty/socialist tie would be pink.  Or yellow.

I think they should be guests on Queer Eye before the next debate.

Kerry’s getting my vote, but I gotta tell ya, they were both pissing me off with their doubletalk.  What we need is a WWF smackdown:  the two of them, and a wrestling ring.

Or maybe a mudpit.

Wearing nothing but their ties.

Okay, I just grossed myself out.

Sounds like I missed an exciting night of fashion.

thank god i’m not the only one who obsessed over the ties.

I thought Bush was going to take his tie off and try to strangle Kerry with it. Probably would’ve got his ass kicked in the process, though. That would have been pretty cool! I think they should get Jerry Springer to moderate one these things!!!

Being a foreigner, I’m probably not the expert in this subject, but pink (and other pastels) seems very US First Lady-like, or? At least during the 80’s, it seemed the US First ladies had monoploy on pink and baby-blue suits and dresses smile

...or monopoly, even…

THAT post was absolutely the best thing about the debates.
