Ever notice that no one ever gives up religion for Lent?
It’s always chocolate or beer or ESPN. I say, challenge yourself with a stretch goal. “In forty days I will return to my faith, but for now I’m just going to worship this old pagan goat’s head.”
not true. my very catholic college roommate used to give up catholicism for lent every year, and boy oh boy did it reinvigorate her religion the rest of the year. (and many many years later, incidentally.)
of course, we also had a roommate who gave up alcohol on weekdays and chocolate on weekends, and you know what they say about the company you keep.
I should give up Utah for Lent.
I think I can do the challenge. When you’re determined to achieve a certain goal, you will. As long as you keep your mind focused. Discipline is also very important.
This is challenging! I am agreeing with you Humus. If you want something to achieve, of course, you do the best thing you can do. Concentration, mind focus and discipline to do this challenge.
I have always vowed to give up meat during Lent, but Ive never really had the strongest will and always given in to quarter pounders with cheese. I should try to give up religion. That should be easier. haha!
My friend Shannon routinely gives up church for Lent.
Great idea! The only thing that would be better is if we gave up Iraq for lent...............
I once gave up celibacy for lent. Never went back to it either.
Hahahaha my mother-in-law, before we got married, would ask my catholic husband what he was giving up for Lent, and she would look at him with The Eye, with the implication that he should give up sex for Lent. I always protested “why should I be punished during Lent for my godlessness?”
I mentioned this Religion-less Lent to my husband, he seemed less than impressed LOL
