I pod, you Bay.

It figures--literally two days after I obtain a 15 GB Ipod, Apple phases it out.  It’s obsolete.  You can now only purchase 20 and 40 GB models.

Can someone explain to me why anyone needs a 40 GB Ipod?  That’s 10,000 songs.  “Yeah, honey, I’m taking the Ipod and going out for a jog.  I’ll be back after I circle around THE PLANET OF NEPTUNE.  Let me know if you’d like me to pick something up from THE REACHES OF DEEP SPACE.”

Look, we all believe that “Stairway to Heaven” should be a shorter song--but hello, can we say “overcompensation”?

In other news: Hey, it’s a Lord of the Rings & the Hobbit Audio CD dramatization.  And an an Xbox cable.  And a 7-piece Popeye set.  And silver age Batman & Robin.  And a 2-pack Episode I & II DVD set.  And a Radiohead CD.  Boy, I loved that smash hit song of theirs, “Jerk.” What is all this?  Why, it must be my friend James selling a bunch of stuff.*

*Okay, James, I did it.  But if anyone other than you or me actually knows who Mervyn Pumpkinhead is, I’ll smuggle a Harry Potter book out of the National Archives.

In order to do so, you will have to travel to DeeCee!  FYI, I doubt Potter is in the archives, but we can get it for you from the Library of Congress.

The janitor in the Sandman.

No known relation to Jack Pumpkinhead in the Oz books.

Not only is he the janitor, he’s your worst nightmare - a pumpkin with a machine gun!

40 GB equals two Beethoven symphonies, that’s why!+

It’s no fun stealing from the LoC; they won’t file charges against you and put you on CNN and stuff.

Okay, so a few people know Mervyn…

I own one of those crappy little Rio Sports. It was cheap and on sale. The most relevant factor is what you can stand to hear. I could put two symphonies on mine too, it’d just sound like ringing phones down a long hall of rushing water. I will someday be purchasing an Ipod as well. Who’s the brilliant salesperson you went to? Maybe I can get the early steam-powered 256mb version. It’d be better than my Sport.

I see your “Stairway to Heaven” and I’ll raise you 1967’s “Nights in White Satin”.

you can be your own traveling radio station! do you have a good DJ voice?

Posted by snowy  on  07/21  at  09:01 AM

Greg has an excellent radio voice and has actually been on broadcast radio for everybody and their uncles to hear him.  And it’s taken me since April but I’ve finally filled eight gigs on my iPod, it’ll last me till V-GER comes back.  Having 40 gigs would be totally overwhelming.  I’d have it full of stuff just to fill it up and since I don’t know 40 gigs worth of stuff I actually want to hear, I’d have a lot of mediocre crap to skip over.  If I liked everything it would be great.  Too bad I’m so damn picky.  I think you shopped very wisely indeed.

I’m too late to chime in with my Sandman knowledge, but suffice to say that Greg, you and James aren’t the only possessors of Gaiman trivia.  Now if only James was trying to unload a cute, Merv, stuffed toy, I might have to bid.
As for the iPod, I think Apple may be taking a cue from Google’s Gmail.  Why select your favourite songs to load into the pod?  Just put them all on there and only play what you want.  Also, I think the iPods are being used for more than just music storage these days.  In fact, I just heard today that Duke University may be providing iPods to incomming freshmen in the future, and, while I could be wrong, I don’t think it’s so that the walk from English Comp to Psych 100 can be livened up with a little Britney Spears.

40 GB is just a beginning.
and the planet neptune is closer than you think.

iPod Mini is the way to go, but not for $250. Next year all these MP3 players will be about 30-50% cheaper, and that’s when I’ll buy one. Unless I can con(vince) someone to get one for me as a birthday or Xmas gift before that.
